Traditions Are Meant To Be Shared: W5’s Favorite Holiday Memories

We extend our warmest wishes for the holiday season to our clients, vendors, colleagues, and friends! We’re so grateful for the community we’ve been able to cultivate through our work. Read on to see some of our favorite things about the holiday season!

AMY

Favorite Holiday Movie: The Grinch, all versions, but the Jim Carrey one is hands down my favorite. “It’s because I’m green, isn’t it?” The Grinch is also my favorite holiday song, too.

Favorite Family Tradition: Happy Appy Eve! We call ourselves a ‘graze’ family because we snack and pick at meals over a couple hours. We do that terrible thing where you just take a bite of cake with a spoon instead of getting a plate, you know what I’m talking about. Drives regular people crazy! So, we invented Happy Appy Eve which we celebrate on Christmas Eve. Instead of a full dinner we just do a ton of appetizers and every snacks all evening … queue the charcuterie board!

Amy recently won the title of Christmas Champion for her “Partner Elf” Extravaganza door decor.

BRENNAN

Favorite Holiday Movie: Incredible forgotten gem called Unlikely Angel. Dolly Parton plays a bar singer tasked with helping a single father connect with his kids at Christmas time. Cheesy Hallmark goodness- I love it.

Favorite Family Tradition: I miss magazines. Growing up, I read so many fun magazines from Nickelodeon to SPIN to Blender or The New Yorker! It’s a dying artform. My family always gets each other a stack of magazines under our stockings and I think flipping through is one of the best ways to spend a lazy Christmas afternoon.

KATHY

Favorite Gift: Rainbow Brite Kitchenette Set (when I was 3 years old)

Favorite Holiday Movie: Elf…today, tomorrow, and forever

Favorite Family Tradition: As my dad’s gotten older we’ve foregone the traditional holiday meal and started hitting up the local Chinese buffet on Christmas Day. I thought I would hate it, but I really adore not having to cook and getting to enjoy more quality time breaking bread with my favorite person (my Dad).

KELSEY

Favorite Gift: Stuffed animal that my family members had taken to a lot of different travel stops. They gave me the stuffed animal with a scrapbook of all the places it was at. Very sweet!

Favorite Holiday Movie: How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Favorite Family Tradition: Making baklava with my father.

JOHN

Favorite Gift: So many, but I think the original Nintendo Entertainment System.

Favorite Holiday Movie: National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Favorite Family Tradition: My wife makes a drink called coquito. I enjoy sipping on that while decorating the tree.

MEGAN

Favorite Holiday Movie: Home Alone. I watch it every year with my family, and we can recite entire scenes. We love to catch hidden details and diagnose Marv and Harry’s injuries along the way.

Favorite Family Tradition: We’ve been watching the listing for the Home Alone house in Winnetka, Illinois over the years. Although the home has been off the market for a few years, “Buzz” posted a recent Airbnb listing offering the home for a special 1-night stay this holiday season.

MARTY

Favorite Family Tradition: I always think of Christmas eve at my grandparents’ house on Long Island with my cousins. It always meant pizza, pre-internet debates among the adults where everyone was sure they were right about some specific fact, and the New York Rangers on the TV.
